In 2026, the year of CESI’s 70th anniversary, we continue the story with another key turning point. After the 1962 nationalization and CESI’s strengthened role alongside Enel, the Center entered a phase of rapid growth.
During the 1960s, CESI evolved from a pioneering lab into a technical cornerstone of Italy’s emerging national grid.
The network analyzer—originally designed for steady‑state studies—was progressively enhanced to investigate complex phenomena such as switching overvoltages, rapid and often invisible events that determine the reliability of the entire power system.
At the same time, CESI worked with Enel on Italy’s first 380 kV transmission line (La Spezia–Baggio), a technological milestone. CESI was no longer just observing the system — it was helping shape its future.
