CESI participated in the high‑level event “Developing an Indo‑Mediterranean Perspective through the IMEC Network”, held in Trieste on 17 March and organized by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with ITA/ICE. The initiative brought together senior institutional and business representatives from Europe, India, the Middle East and the United States to discuss the strategic development of the India–Middle East–Europe Corridor (IMEC).
Speaking in the closed‑door energy panel CESI – represented by Alessio Cipullo, Head of Italy and EU Public Affairs – highlighted that IMEC can only become fully operational with reliable, scalable, and interoperable electricity corridors capable of transferring renewable power across continents, enabling a functional Indo‑Mediterranean energy market. CESI outlined its experience in major HVDC and cross‑border projects, including the India–Saudi Arabia interconnection study, Saudi Arabia’s Central–West HVDC corridor, contributions to NEOM, and Euro‑Mediterranean links such as ELMED and MEDLINK.
The company underlined the importance of bankable regulatory frameworks to attract investment in multi‑country corridors, as well as the need to reduce execution risks through early technology assessment and system‑level engineering. CESI also underscored the role of KEMA Labs: its independent HVDC testing and certification capabilities are critical for ensuring interoperability and reliability in IMEC’s multi‑vendor environment.
The event reaffirmed Italy’s and Trieste’s strategic position as a European gateway for future IMEC energy flows, with CESI ready to support the corridor’s development with its technical, regulatory, and testing expertise.
