CESI at Jicable HVDC Conference 2025
22 . Oct . 2025

We are pleased to share that on October 20th, the CESI Consulting HVDC Cable Systems Team delivered a technical presentation during one of the tutorials at the Jicable HVDC Conference 2025, held in Turin, a leading international forum dedicated to high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable technologies.

The tutorial, entitled “Surge and Extended Overvoltage Evaluation of HVDC Cable Systems for Testing”, presented and discussed key findings from the CIGRE Joint Working Group (JWG) B4/B1/C4.73, which will soon be published in a new Technical Brochure.

The presentation addressed the following topics:

  1. DC Long Temporary Overvoltages (DC LTOV) occurring in point-to-point HVDC systems;
  2. Evaluation of Lightning Impulse (LI) Overvoltages in mixed OHL–cable configurations;
  3. Impact of derived overvoltages on insulation capability;
  4. Consequences for HV testing.

The tutorial of CIGRE JWG B4/B1/C4.73 was presented jointly with other JWG members: Markus Saltzer (NKT, Convenor), Vincent Joubert (Prysmian), Willem Leterme (RWTH Aachen University), Max Görtz (Mosaic Grid Solution), Tanumay Karmokar (TenneT), and Giovanni Mazzanti (University of Bologna).

This work represents an important contribution to improving the robustness and reliability of HVDC cable systems in increasingly demanding grid applications.

Congratulations to our Team for this valuable contribution to the global HVDC engineering community!
