CESI Supports Zambia’s Grid Development for a Renewable Future

CESI Supports Zambia’s Grid Development for a Renewable Future
24 . Feb . 2025

Between 2021 and 2022, CESI developed a short-term grid development plan for Zambia, assessing the feasibility of integrating 440MW of renewable energy into the national grid by 2030. The study aimed to ensure a safe and economically viable transition while aligning with the country’s clean energy goals and addressing the growing electricity demand.

The plan provides a strategic overview of key aspects, including the benefits of regional cooperation, the transition away from coal, the cost implications of electricity generation, and the future role of hydropower in ensuring grid stability. Additionally, through a high-level cost-benefit analysis, the study supports policymakers in identifying optimal locations for new renewable plants, minimizing overall social costs and maximizing efficiency.

With this initiative, CESI reaffirms its commitment to enabling sustainable energy solutions and supporting Zambia in shaping a reliable, resilient, and greener power system.
