Since 2023, CESI has been a key partner in the Botswana Renewable Energy Support Project, providing strategic consulting services to enhance the country’s legislative and policy framework for implementing its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
Developed in collaboration with the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) and the Government of Botswana (GOB), this initiative aims to equip the nation with tailored tools to ensure regulatory compliance and strengthen sector governance. CESI has been conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing regulations to align them with the newly approved IRP. At the same time, it has actively engaged national and state-level stakeholders to exchange best practices and lessons learned.
To support the effective adoption of regulatory recommendations, CESI has provided targeted training for BERA’s leadership and the Ministry of Minerals and Energy (MME). Additionally, it has developed essential technical studies and regulatory tools, including a new network code for Botswana, ensuring the project’s successful implementation.
Through its expertise, CESI guarantees that the project remains technically sound, economically viable, and environmentally responsible. By fostering governance improvements and creating a favorable environment for private investments, CESI plays a crucial role in Botswana’s transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy sector.
