The candidate will be responsible for the following activities:
- Identify equipment requirements to conduct each test and manage Test Operators, Technicians, and other support personnel to successfully execute Customers’ test programs.
- Manage Customer expectations before, during and after the test program evolution. Act as the key point of contact with the Customer representatives (in coordination with the relevant Client Manager) during the conduct of the test program at the KEMA Labs – Milan facility.
- Identify and prepare circuits and procedural sequences including measuring equipment and systems to meet test requirements using industry standards and/or Customer’s test plans.
- Assure all requirements of the KEMA Labs HSE and Quality Management programs are strictly adhered to during the test program.
- Develop test programs and assure all necessary requirements and conditions stipulated in the approved Quote are incorporated in the test program.
- Monitor test program preparation and execution to ensure safety of the personnel and equipment utilized in conducting each test evolution. Provide technical direction to Test Operations personnel as necessary.
- Analyze the test results, prepare a comprehensive written Test Report and/or review the test results with the Customer. Assure accuracy of the Test Report and compliance with all applicable industry standards and Customer requirements as described in the Quote, and Test Plans.
- Assure that all written Test Reports strictly adhere to all requirements of the KEMA Labs Quality Management programs.
- Maintain current working knowledge of applicable ANSI, IEEE, IEC, UL, and other standards for electrical/mechanical equipment.
- As necessary, review Customer Quotes for technical requirements, facility adequacy, Test Operations skills requirements and provide information to the Sales Engineer for incorporation in the Quote. Contact the Customer as required, clarifying, or resolving discrepancies, open issues, questions, etc. Assure requirements are incorporated in the final Quote and advise the Head of HVL Milan.
- Assist the Head of HVL Milan to develop new and improved test procedures, operations processes, training curricula, equipment, and test technologies, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of HVL Milan.
Candidates will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Measurement circuit and instrumentation set-up;

Under the direction of Test Engineer or Test Operator:

- Identify and safely set up the test fixtures, appurtenances, auxiliary equipment, etc. which will be required for assigned tests based on expected current and voltage levels, Customer requirements and Test Cell and facility status
- Conduct troubleshooting and correction of any facility or equipment malfunctions, failures, sub optimal performance, etc. to safely and effectively complete the test evolution
- Correctly provide auxiliary power to the Customers’ equipment based on the test plans
- Assist the Test Engineer in preparing for the test including review of drawings, Test Plans, and test sequence
- Provide ongoing feedback to the Senior Test Engineer and Test Engineer during the execution of the test
- At the conclusion of the test sequence, safely remove all test fixtures, appurtenances, auxiliary equipment, etc. and restore the test cell and facility to pre-test status.
- Take corrective actions as necessary based on the results of the above
- Interface and communicate with Customers during the conduct of customer testing activities
- Perform minor maintenance and housekeeping activities as required
- Assist the Logistics Technician as required in material handling activities
- Safely and effectively operate cranes, hoists, man lifts, forklifts, and other motorized equipment
- Assist the Test Engineers, Technicians, Generator Operations, and other support personnel as operating conditions require
- Maintain current working knowledge of applicable procedures, vendor manuals, original equipment manufacturer instructions, etc. for electrical/mechanical necessary to conduct testing activities

Under the direction of the Scheduling Engineer the Shipping and Logistics Specialist will:
- Safely and effectively operate materials handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other motorized equipment) to transport customer and KEMA-Powertest, LLC, equipment, and material to the required location
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the shipping and receiving area of KEMA-Powertest, LLC
- Interface with test operations, customers, transporters, truckers etc. to receive and ship materials and equipment to support test operations and maintenance activities
- Manage the Traveler Form system used to track the location of all received equipment/material; develop a more effective tracking method in the future
- Manage the Microsoft Outlook inbox dedicated to all shipping/logistics correspondence from clients
- Take pictures of all equipment and materials (both incoming and outgoing) and log photographs into the relevant project folder
- Scan all shipping paperwork from clients and log paperwork into the relevant project folder

The candidate shall have advanced and well proven knowledge of the electrical power system modeling and static/dynamic behavior and shall also be acquainted on the application of the most common software tools for network modeling (e.g. mainly PSSE and DigSilent and their libraries/modules, but also Neplan, Etap or equivalent). He will have to perform simulation and analysis of complex power system steady state and dynamic behavior, develop mathematical models for reliability assessment of electrical networks, and deliver technical consulting/training services. In addition he will have to lead teams of study engineers in execution of consulting projects; provide critical technical guidance to team members. Support will be required also to generate consulting proposals, deliver consulting services and perform project management functions all as per CESI quality standards, creating technical reports documenting study process and results. The candidate shall directly interact with the clients and shall guarantee the excellence of the delivery in full compliance with the technical and economic targets of the project. For the execution of the projects, the candidate will coordinate the activities of junior engineers.
Skills: Extensive knowledge of transmission system planning and system reliability assessment, with experience in transfer capability analysis, optimal power flow analysis, steady state and stability analysis, as well as transmission expansion planning. Demonstrated expertise in development of dynamic simulation models, including models for advanced power systems technologies, such as renewable energy, FACTS and energy storage systems. Expertise in transient and voltage stability analysis, including reactive power planning. Expertise in using PSSE and DigSilent and other products in their libraries/modules, as well as Neplan and Etap tools. Strong communication skills, including strong written English language skills.
The candidate will be called to contribute in different phases of SCADA/EMS/DMS/SAS projects devoted to CESI Clients, eventually starting from an initial assessment and gap analysis of the existing infrastructures, as well as of the applications and platforms operated at the TSOs and DSOs premises, passing through conceptual design and detailed functional specification. The following stages could be a support to the tendering process and the overall owner’s engineering activity, including detailed design review and participation to FAT and SAT. In this case the candidate will take the responsibility for the organization of the data acquisition on site and surveillance to the installation, management and operation of all the corresponding equipment, as well as for the coordination, execution, monitoring and evaluation of all testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities of the new SCADA/EMS/DMS/SAS system, with also possible support to trial operation of the system itself.
We are looking for a Power Cybernetics Engineer-Researcher with a strong background in the field of power electronics, specifically with its application in power systems.
You will be responsible to further develop our existing and upcoming services in the area of Power Cybernetics as well as for creating new or related services for KEMA Labs to position the company for further growth within the power system industry.
In particular you will be working on the development of sophisticated closed-loop testing and validation methods of power equipment (such as Photovoltaic-inverters, plug-in electrical vehicles, heat pumps, etc.), including its hardware testing, simulation and software model validation, in a professional laboratory environment.
You will be responsible for:
- The execution of short circuit test, assembling, analyzing, and disassembling measurement set-ups
- Preparing the test set-ups (controls, measurements)
- Working on maintenance and repair of installations and measurement equipment
- Following the completion of the test for analyzing the results and reporting to the customer
- Conducting sensitive measurements
- Executing tests under guidance of the test engineer
- Outside of testing you will have your own projects in the fields of your interest (camera’s calibration, safety, R&D etc.).
Under the direction of Test Engineer:

- Determine what test instruments shall be used for each type of test based on expected current and voltage levels, Customer requirements and Test Cell and facility status
- Correctly set up the test in the MARS system
- Set up auxiliary devices such as travel recorders high speed/digital video and various other devices necessary to capture required test data
- Correctly provide auxiliary power to the Customers’ equipment based on the test plans
- Assist the Test Engineer in preparing for the test including review of the Test Plans and test sequence.
- Provide ongoing feedback to the Test Engineer during the execution of the test
- Check the accuracy and completeness of the Test Engineer’s calculations
- Correctly develop test data plots and determine measurement routines have worked effectively based on the results of the test

- Assist when necessary in the development of test programs by the Test Engineers. Assure all necessary requirements and conditions stipulated in the approved Quote are incorporated in the test program.
- Monitor test program preparation and execution to ensure safety of the personnel and equipment utilized in conducting each test evolution. Provide technical assistance to Technicians and other support personnel as necessary.
- Assist the Test Engineers, Technicians, and other support personnel as Operating Conditions require.
- Perform the duties of Test Technician as Operating Conditions require.

- When necessary perform drawing verifications to assure Customer’s equipment conforms to drawings provided as part of the approved Quote.

The candidate will be called to contribute in different phases of design and development of applications for CESI Clients, starting from initial assessment and gap analysis of the existing infrastructures, applications and platforms deployed at the TSOs and DSOs premises, passing through conceptual design and detailed functional specification.
In performing this activity, the main focuses will be:
- Scouting of most suitable IT/OT technologies, platforms, market products, programming languages and hardware solutions to be used in the specific applications;
- Conceptual IT design of software solutions to be developed for CESI Clients;
- Coordination and supervision of IT developers across multiple projects to support Project Managers and Product Leaders in resource allocation;
- Improvement and implementation of CESI standardized approach for OT software applications.
The above activities may be conducted during tendering process and/or project delivery. Delivery may comprise design and development of OT software applications, system integration in Client’s IT/OT infrastructures, including detailed design review, functional specification and participation to FAT and SAT. In this case the candidate will be responsible for the organization surveillance to the installation, management and operation of all the solution’s components, as well as for the coordination, execution, monitoring and evaluation of all testing, with also possible support to trial operation of the developed applications after their integration in Client’s OT systems.
The core tasks are attending and/or reviewing third-party type tests, performing off-take inspections, performing failure investigations and process-oriented checks and, to a limited extent, partial quality system checks. This work is always completed with a written report. As an inspector, you make a statement on behalf of KEMA Labs regarding the activities, as office work is also part of this function. The inspections mainly take place in the factories and laboratories of third parties, worldwide. After a training period, you will carry out inspections independently.
The candidate will be involved on the following activities:

The candidate shall have good knowledge of the fundamentals of the electrical power system and shall also be acquainted on the application of the most common software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSCAD, ATP, EMTP-RV, PSSE, DigSilent or equivalent). According to the various projects, the candidate will be called to develop different activities. In feasibility stage, he/she shall contribute to the selection of the optimal parameters for the HVDC equipment, to be chosen by means of networks and performance studies. During the specification of a HVDC substations, he/she shall define the station layout, the electro-mechanical arrangement, the main equipment selection (e.g. transformers), as well as the possible filter banks (shunt compensators, smoothing reactor, …), the ancillary equipment and the control & protection systems. In construction / commissioning phase, he/she follows the factory and site acceptance tests, assuring the quality of the supplied products. The candidate shall directly interact with the clients and shall guarantee the excellence of the delivery in full compliance with the technical and economic targets of the project. For the execution of the projects, the candidate will coordinate the activities of junior engineers.
The candidate will be in charge of the following tasks
- Technical review, assessment and interpretation of Grid Connection Codes & Standards and Grid Code Compliance processes

As Product Leader the candidate will be responsible for the Technical Quality of projects reports as well as of tender proposals, and therefore also of the Business Development of the Monitoring Systems Product. The candidate will be called to contribute in different phases of monitoring systems projects, devoted to CESI Clients, eventually starting from an initial assessment and gap analysis of the existing monitoring infrastructures, as well as of the applications and platforms operated by the owners of the infrastructures, passing through conceptual and definitive design, detailed functional specification, support to tendering process or overall owner’s or engineering activity, including detailed design review and participation to installation and final technical testing phases. The candidate will take the responsibility for the organization of the experts allocated to the monitoring systems product activities (design, maintenance and surveillance), as well as for the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the activities assuring timely/quality deliveries to the Clients.
Under the direction of the Head of HPL:
