CESI is pleased to announce that a technical paper supported by testing activities performed at its Milan laboratories has received the Best Paper Award in the SC B1 – Insulated Cables category during the CIGRE Paris Session 2026.
The award-winning paper, titled “Qualification and reliability assessment of slow polarity reversal endurance in HVDC MIND cables for enhanced grid flexibility” , was authored by Massimo Marzinotto, Antonio Battaglia, Stefano Franchi Bononi, Alessandro Trolli, Lars Lervik, Thomas Andersrød, Simone Santonoceto, Power Cables Labs Test Engineer, and Carlo Del Giorgio, High Voltage Labs Test Engineer.
The work addresses a key challenge for modern transmission systems: ensuring the reliability of HVDC cable technologies under increasingly demanding operating conditions. As power systems evolve to accommodate higher shares of renewable generation and greater grid flexibility, robust cable performance becomes a critical factor in supporting the energy transition.
The recognition awarded by CIGRE, the leading international association for large electric systems, highlights the quality of the technical contribution and the importance of advanced testing activities in validating innovative power transmission solutions.
