CESI is contributing its technical and strategic expertise to the Italian Government’s Mattei Plan through the initiative “A Roadmap to Connect Africa to Europe for Clean Energy Production.” The project is designed to strengthen energy integration between North Africa and the European Union, support cross-Mediterranean clean electricity flows and reinforce Italy’s role as a strategic energy hub.
As a consultant supporting the project, CESI is helping to develop a fact-based, phased roadmap that evaluates existing and future electricity interconnections, renewable energy potential, and the infrastructure needed to support greater cross-border energy cooperation. Coordinated by Italy’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) under the European Commission’s Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the World Bank, the initiative seeks to translate long-term ambitions into practical actions.
The roadmap will provide stakeholders with a clear framework to identify priority investments, infrastructure requirements, and regulatory measures needed to accelerate clean energy integration between Europe and North Africa.
Drawing on its international expertise in power systems, grid interconnections, renewable integration, and energy transition planning, CESI is contributing to a robust analytical foundation for future decision-making. The project has already encouraged stronger cooperation between Italy and Tunisia, including the establishment of a Collaborative Framework in 2025.
Through its contribution, CESI is helping advance a shared vision of energy security, sustainable economic development, and a cleaner, more interconnected Mediterranean energy future.
