CESI in the 1970s: The Turning Point

Let us return to the story of our history: if the 1960s saw CESI begin to accompany the evolution of Italy’s electricity system, the 1970s marked a decisive leap forward.

Growth was no longer only technological. It had also become organisational and industrial. Power networks were growing ever more complex, and CESI responded by investing in people, expertise and infrastructure. It was the decade of major development plans, of testing that anticipated the future — culminating in the experimental 1,000 kV project — and of a new mindset. CESI remained a laboratory, but it also learned to structure itself as a technology company, without ever losing its rigour or independence.

CESI became one of the places where the future of the power system began to take shape, long before it reached the grid.

In the years that followed, that body of expertise would take CESI beyond Italy’s borders and into an increasingly international dimension. But that is a story for the next chapter.

CESI negli anni ’70: la svolta

Torniamo al racconto della nostra storia: se negli anni Sessanta CESI aveva iniziato ad accompagnare l’evoluzione del sistema elettrico italiano, negli anni Settanta compie un salto decisivo.

La crescita non è più solo tecnologica, ma organizzativa e industriale. Le reti diventano sempre più complesse. CESI risponde investendo su persone, competenze e infrastrutture. È il decennio dei grandi piani di sviluppo, delle prove che anticipano il futuro – fino al progetto sperimentale a 1.000 kV – e di una nuova mentalità. CESI resta laboratorio, ma impara a strutturarsi come un’impresa tecnologica, senza perdere rigore e indipendenza.

CESI diventa uno dei luoghi in cui il futuro del sistema elettrico prende forma, prima ancora di arrivare sulle reti.

Negli anni successivi, questo patrimonio di competenze porterà CESI oltre i confini nazionali, verso una dimensione sempre più internazionale. Ma questo lo vedremo nel prossimo episodio.
