CESI Supports Energy Interconnections between Europe and Africa

CESI Supports Energy Interconnections between Europe and Africa
13 . Jan . 2025

In 2022, CESI was tasked by Georgia with drafting a feasibility study for a submarine electric interconnection with Romania, blending development cooperation with Italian entrepreneurial expertise.

This initiative aligns with Italy’s Mattei Plan, launched during its G7 Presidency, which prioritizes Africa in its policy agenda.

In May 2024, the Mattei Plan hosted its fourth Technical Coordination Table on Energy Security, inaugurating the “A Road Map to Connect Africa to Europe for Clean Energy Production” project. Funded by the European Commission and implemented by the World Bank, the project aims to map energy interconnection infrastructure to enable clean energy flows from Africa to Europe via Italy, positioning it as a strategic hub between the continents.

CESI’s expertise continues to drive progress in fostering sustainable energy connections worldwide.
