ERERA Task Force and CESI Finalize WAPP Grid Code

From February 5th to 9th, 2024, the ERERA Task Force held its concluding meeting in Cotonou, marking a pivotal step in the revision of the West African Power Pool (WAPP) Grid Code. Initially developed by CESI between 2020 and 2022, the Grid Code outlines technical standards for the operation and maintenance of the power transmission system. Its goal is to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power system operations, promote market competition, and support the integration of new technologies.

The CESI project team, led by Fabio Riva from the Energy & Automation Competence Center, played a key role in assisting the Task Force to finalize revisions.

This meeting culminated in the preliminary adoption of the WAPP Grid Code, setting it on its path through the approval processes required by regional regulations.

The closing remarks highlighted the workshop’s success in establishing a solid foundation for the regional electricity market, praising the collective effort and marking a significant achievement for the regional energy sector.
