EnerNex, a US CESI company, has spearheaded the development of use cases, requirements, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for multiple microgrids featuring diverse primary and backup generation options. These advanced solutions aim to ensure uninterrupted power delivery to essential facilities such as fire stations, police stations, city halls, emergency shelters, and nursing homes.

EnerNex’s comprehensive approach involved determining the most effective generation options and developing detailed business cases. The company conducted thorough cost-benefit analyses for various generation options, including combined heat and power (CHP) systems, as well as natural gas and propane fuels. Additionally, EnerNex calculated the total electric load requirements and specified the necessary generator specifications for numerous community microgrids.

Key design considerations included the ability to support cold load pickup, operational resilience during hurricanes, floods, and other severe weather events, and seamless integration with existing communication and electric distribution systems.
