CESI Pioneers in Sustainable Mobility Development Across Europe and the US
01 . Jul . 2024

CESI is making significant strides in the sustainable mobility sector across Europe and the United States. Renowned for its expertise in consultancy studies and rigorous testing, CESI is actively collaborating with key international institutions to shape the future of transportation, focusing on electric mobility as a crucial part of this sustainable approach.

Sustainable mobility encompasses a range of technologies and solutions designed to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. This includes electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen fuel cells, and biofuels. Each of these technologies plays a vital role in creating a diversified and resilient transportation system that can meet future energy needs while minimizing carbon emissions.

In Italy, CESI has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the potential for electric vehicles (EVs) to enhance vehicle grid integration (VGI) services, focusing on technical, regulatory, and market perspectives. The study involved developing scenarios based on the existing regulatory framework and technical characteristics of EVs and charge points, helping to anticipate future needs and challenges. CESI also formulated use cases that concentrate on the availability of public charge points, crucial for understanding how EVs can effectively interact with the grid. Additionally, the company evaluated the potential for EVs to participate in demand response, Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR), ancillary services, and the day-ahead market, considering both current regulations and potential future developments. Through this study, CESI identified significant benefits for the electric system, including enhanced grid stability and efficiency, and also delineated the costs associated with implementing these VGI services.

Expanding beyond Italy, CESI explored the business models for installing EV charging stations in three European countries. This assessment provided valuable insights into the economic viability and strategic planning necessary for the expansion of charging infrastructure, a critical component for the widespread adoption of EVs.

CESI’s efforts are instrumental in supporting the transition to a more sustainable and integrated energy system. By focusing on innovation, infrastructure, and strategic planning, CESI and other industry leaders are paving the way for a sustainable mobility future that benefits both the environment and the global economy.
