Tomorrow, July 7, our “HVDC switchgear: Is it now time for revenge?” new webinar will take place at 10.00 am (CEST) . Join us, for free , to discuss the fundamental role that HVDC grids have come to play in the development of clean energy in electricity systems .
HVDC switchgear: Is it now time for revenge? will focus on the recent progresses in the verification of key protection and control components: HVDC circuit breakers and HVDC GIS. Our speakers, René Peter Paul Smeets (Innovation and Technology Engineer at KEMA Labs) and Nadew Adisu Belda (Innovation Engineer at KEMA Labs), will assess the role of HVDC in the deployment of massive quantities of renewable energy, particularly tackling their scarce presence in Europe. In this respect, the Horizons 2020 European project PROMOTioN (Progress on Meshed HVDC Offshore Transmission Networks) seeks to improve the current situation, with HVDC switchgear as key equipment for the protection and operation. In order to achieve such objectives, however, the TRL of this equipment needs to be increased towards the full-scale prototype performance demonstration level.
The first full-scale testing of HVDC circuit breakers and HVDC GIS, however, has been conducted and demonstrated at KEMA Labs in Arnhem, therefore our experts will delve deep into such topics during the webinar.
