Join our new webinar on Tuesday, July 7, 10.00 am (CEST) – As HVDC grids have become a key element for green energy, we will discuss this crucial topic in our next webinar, together with René Peter Paul Smeets (Innovation and Technology Engineer at KEMA Labs) and Nadew Adisu Belda (Innovation Engineer at KEMA Labs).
HVDC grids are crucial for conveying massive quantities of renewable energy. However, such grids are not common yet in Europe because of different reasons, one of which is the lack of proven protection equipment. Although several technology concepts have been developed by manufacturers, in fact, very few HVDC circuit breakers have been installed in Europe. In this respect, the Horizons 2020 European project PROMOTioN (Progress on Meshed HVDC Offshore Transmission Networks) seeks to develop such a grid, with HVDC switchgear as key equipment for the protection and operation. In order to achieve such objectives, however, the TRL of this equipment needs to be increased towards the full-scale prototype performance demonstration level.
Therefore, HVDC switchgear: Is it now time for revenge? , our upcoming webinar, highlights the recent progresses in the verification of key protection and control components: HVDC circuit breakers and HVDC GIS. As the first full-scale testing of HVDC circuit breakers and HVDC GIS has been conducted and demonstrated at KEMA Labs in Arnhem, the webinar will provide an overview on the actual status of this technology, its standardization as well as on future developments.
