CESI experts Daniele Daminelli (Group IT Director), Luciano Masotti (Consultant), and Silvia Corigliano (Consultant) have contributed to advancing the discussion on renewable hydrogen systems with their paper, “Renewable hydrogen systems for a sustainable heavy-duty mobility: The Italian case,” published in Renewable Energy Focus.
The study examines the economic and technical feasibility of renewable hydrogen production, storage, and utilization for heavy-duty transport in Italy, highlighting its importance for achieving the nation’s 2030 hydrogen strategy targets. Notably, the paper estimates that meeting these targets will require 3.6 GW of variable renewables and 1 GW of electrolyzers for the heavy-duty fleet.
Key insights include:
The findings reinforce the strategic role of hydrogen in advancing sustainable mobility in Italy, providing valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders in the energy and transport sectors.
