CESI hosted a breakout and consultative session from March 25th to March 29th, focusing on the Transmission Pricing Methodology for the Regional Electricity Market in West Africa. This session was organized as part of the “Finalization of the WAPP grid code and tariff comparative analysis project” spearheaded by the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and financially supported by the World Bank.
The primary objective of the project is to facilitate a comparative analysis of Transmission Pricing Methodologies. This analysis aims to furnish recommendations on the most suitable method to be implemented within the West African context, fostering the development of a more efficient and integrated Regional Electricity Market.
The breakout session, held at CESI’s initiative, was attended by representatives from WAPP, including high-ranking officials such as the Secretary General and the Directors of the Planning Division and the Information and Coordination Center. Additionally, notable participants from the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERERA), including the Chairman, were actively engaged in the discussions.
Integral to the success of this initiative were key CESI personnel, such as Bruno Cova, Advisory Services & Studies Director, Andrea Meola, Business Development Director, Fabio Riva, Energy & Automation Competence Center, and Simone Pasquini, Area Manager Africa. Their expertise and dedication played an important role in steering the project towards its objectives. Furthermore, consultants from the Instituto de Investigación Tecnológica of Pontificia Comillas University and Financial/Economic Expert Mr. Federico Pontoni contributed significantly to the comprehensive analysis undertaken during the session.
This collaboration marks a significant stride towards the realization of a robust and sustainable energy landscape in West Africa.
