Energy storage infrastructure is advancing rapidly, combining established technologies like pumped-storage hydroelectricity with emerging solutions such as flywheels, super capacitors, and hydrogen. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), a longstanding technology, are being further developed to improve the flexibility of electric grids powered by variable renewable energy sources.
CESI is actively promoting the evolution of energy storage technologies. The company works on integrating storage infrastructure, conducting feasibility studies, and advising on BESS-based services to balance grids with high renewable energy penetration. In 2021, CESI partnered with ENEL to enhance BESS systems through environmental and technical assessments.
Globally, CESI supports the energy transition in North Africa and the Middle East. In Libya, it collaborated with AGOCO on concentrated solar power plants, while in Oman, CESI has updated the national energy plan to increase wind and solar production, ensuring grid stability and environmental protection.
In the UAE, CESI worked with SEWA to connect small-scale solar photovoltaic systems to the grid, providing safety guidelines and technical standards. Similarly, in Bahrain, CESI assisted the government in developing policies for integrating solar energy into the national grid.
These initiatives highlight a global commitment to renewable energy and storage solutions, as regions like the Gulf empower consumers to generate their own electricity, making renewable energy both environmentally and economically beneficial.
