Feasibility study for Smart Metering in Serbia

Feasibility study for smart metering deployments in Serbia

EPS, the state-owned power utility of Serbia, operates the country’s distribution network through its five subsidiaries. It serves around 3.4 million customers, of which around 4,000 are connected at medium or higher voltage. In order to reduce losses and improve energy efficiency, EPS obtained a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund the procurement and installation of smart electricity meters with remote reading and remote disconnection capabilities, and related telecommunications and IT equipment and software.

As a first step of implementing an AMI/MDM (advanced metering infrastructure/meter data management) system in Serbia, CESI was asked to perform a feasibility study and provide guidelines for implementing the subsequent stages.

CESI provided the following services:

  • Technology feasibility study
  • Legal feasibility study
  • Organisational and resources feasibility study
  • Project schedule assessment
  • Project business case
  • Risk management
  • Assessment of unbundling compliance
