From February 26th to 28th, Juba hosted a significant workshop for the “Uganda-South Sudan 400kV Power Interconnection Line Project.” This gathering aimed to review the draft feasibility study, environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA), and resettlement action plan (RAP).
Leading the consultant consortium on this critical project is CESI, represented by Simone Pasquini, Area Manager Africa, alongside Gabriele Callegari, Project Manager, Danilo Marchesini, Power System Consultant, and Federico Pontoni, Economic & Financial Expert. Their leadership is pivotal in steering this project towards its goals of enhancing energy access, reliability, and fostering cross-border trading in East Africa.
The workshop saw participation from over 50 stakeholders, including key figures from UETCL (Uganda Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd), SSEC (South Sudan Electricity Corporation), project coordinator NELSAP-CU (Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program), and financier AfDB (African Development Bank). High-profile attendees included Mr. Pal Mai Deng, South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Mr. Simon Mijok Majak, Minister of Roads and Bridges and Energy and Dams, and Mr. Lothar Jaschke, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to South Sudan.
