Space Solar Cells

Projects

The new production line, inaugurated in March 2025, represents a €20 million investment, over one-third of which is funded through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model under ASI’s Space Factory 4.0 program, connected to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

This investment has enabled a 200% increase in production capacity, thanks to the introduction of five new evaporators and a MOCVD reactor for controlled growth of advanced semiconductors.

Supported by a team of over 60 highly specialized technicians, including 30 new hires, CESI Space is poised to strengthen Italy’s role in the global space economy.

Excellence in Solar Technology

CESI has already produced over 250,000 solar cells for more than 100 satellites, making it one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solar cells for commercial civil space space applications.

Driving Growth in the Space Economy

With the launch of CESI Space, CESI reinforces its commitment to the Italian and European space sector, developing cutting-edge solar energy solutions for the next generation of satellites. This strategic move comes amid a period of unprecedented expansion in the Space Economy, unlocking new growth opportunities for the entire industrial supply chain.

CESI Space represents not only a leap in technology but also a tangible example of how PNRR-backed initiatives can accelerate industrial innovation and position Italy as a global leader in space energy.
