Solar Cells

CESI has a 30-year experience in the research, development and production of high efficiency multi-junction solar cells both for space and terrestrial applications.

Our state of the art triple junction cells can convert the solar radiation into electricity with the efficiency above 30% in space applications and above 40% in terrestrial applications, and are manufactured using III-V compounds (GaAs and InGaP) as base material.

CESI is already at an advanced state of development of quadruple junction solar cells.

The main application of III-V solar cells is in the space, to provide electric power to the satellites, and in high concentration system for the terrestrial field.

CESI it’s one of the top worldwide suppliers of multi-junction cells using material as GaAs (Gallium Arsenide), InGaP (Indium Gallium Phosphide).

In this field of technology, CESI can also provide the following services:

  • Supply of solar cells for different application fields
  • Supply of epitaxial wafers according to the customer specifications
  • Preliminary design of photovoltaic panels using GaAs cells
  • Training on solar technology
  • Developing of advanced technology solutions
  • The characteristics of solar cells developed by CESI are:

  • Solar cells for space applications: Solar cells toward 35% efficiency, using new materials, nano-structures and multi junction technologies. The cells are built using modules InGaP (Indium Gallium Phosphide) and GaAs (gallium arsenide). The most important feature is the resistance: more than 30 years of life and temperatures from -250°C to +300°C.
  • Solar cells for terrestrial concentration systems: The terrestrial application of these high efficiency solar cells is economically convenient for concentrator photovoltaic systems (CPV). In this application, triple junction solar cells demonstrated to overcome 40% of conversion efficiency.
