The aim of EIB was to define and assess the feasibility of 400 kV reinforcements of the south-north Jordanian transmission corridor to ensure an appropriate reliability and security level throughout Jordan, in accordance with the standards established in the Grid Code.
What we have done
In the first phase of the project, the general content of the Jordan system has been analised in terms of:
Screening of the alternatives for reinforcing the 400 kV Jordanian Transmission Network
Assessment of institutional-legal framework of electricity sector
Economic and financial assessment of Jordanian TSO
The most profitable options for reinforcing the network have been selected through technical analyses. In a second phase of the project a full technical, economic ahd financial assessement of the best 400 kV reinforcement options has been carried out. At the end, an investment plan has been defined covering the short, mid and long-terms horizon years. The main technical characteristics and cost breakdown of the reinforcements have been defined.
The main outcome of the study is the assessment of options for financing 400 kV reinforcements in the Jordanian Transmission Network from technical and economic point of view, paying particular attention to the interaction between the investments in new generation and investments in transmission infrastructures. Not only the EIB takes advantage of this study but also the beneficiary NEPCO, the Jordanian TSO.
